THE DEAF PRIEST

I remember how he used to pray for a player
So earnestly and fervently
He finally got one
He would play series of prayers on his new player
Repeatedly so
I used to watch the flame in the frame, the glassy one
While I listened to the serial play of prayers
Fascinating it was
To listen to prayers and confessions
Of who gleaned grave matters among the greens
And feasted on flesh in the fresh
It was horribly intriguing
Especially when he was clueless about his midnight crew
Who would pry the ply wood apart
And snoop on the prayers being played
Secret prayers and confessions of ones long gone
I always wondered why he did so though
After all, he was deaf.
