A STITCH IN PAIN
I sit in the dark, sewing patterns in my palm
Yet my palm feels numb, just like my heart
The needle is blunt that I know
But then I don’t feel the hurt
Maybe I am just waiting,
Waiting to draw blood with the minute stiletto
I keep sewing, the patterns are pretty
Alas! The needle hurts my skin
Blood is draining into the thread
But I can’t stop
The patterns become more beautiful as I draw in a frenzy
I won’t stop
The pain!
Oh so excruciating!
I have to stop!
Common sense!
Now looking at my palm wrapped in the stiff greybaft
I anticipate its healing
For I want to sew again
Only this time, with a smoother needle and a first-aid kit.
